Here We Are Once More / Busy Bee
Though we! Took a! Detour! Here we are once more!
Another full week back in NYC. It felt like a pretty good period (somewhat boring but I guess that’s expected) of settling back into a routine.
I’ve decided to be a little more mature about my lifestyle and wake up early. I caught up with Andrew and he seemed surprised that I was waking up at 845am (though I thought that was a somewhat reasonable time already). To be fair, the days are getting short and I could definitely use more sunlight. Lately the sun sets around 5pm!!!
So I’m hoping that by waking at 745 I’ll have enough time to get some jump roping in (get the blood pumping) or have time to produce.
I think I’m also on this lifestyle audit grind because I’m currently re-reading Atomic Habits with Harry.
A quick recap of the week so far.
Monday
Tara cooked dinner for me! Shrimp pasta and broccolini (served with a really delicious greek yogurt sauce) with a homemade matcha tiramisu.
Tuesday
Back into volleyball. I think the last few months I felt so much busier with work and dating Tara but now the dust is settling and I’m slowly getting back into a routine. We ended up winning the game 2 to 1. I was sore for days afterwards.
Wednesday
Did my book club with Harry. Also went into the office for the first time in weeks. Pretty fun catching up with friends and joining choir.
Thursday
Also went into the office to catch up with Steve. After work, met up with Kelvin at a new udon place and got a quick drink at Sake Bar Decibel. Watched an improv show with Tara afterwards at UCB. Two actors from 30 Rock were doing the show. Felt like seeing old friends I hadn’t seen in decades
Friday
Worked at Tara’s office. After work, her coworkers hosted a jam at their music room and I sang a few songs there too. Squeezed in a quick session of golf at Chelsea Piers. Hung out at Tara’s place afterwards and went to her friend’s house party later that night.
Saturday
Volunteering at the studio in the morning. Laid in bed tired from the night before. Met up with Tim for tennis. Met up with Jason and Nicole for dinner. Laid in bed some more.
Sunday
I sit at a cafe writing right now. Meeting up with Tara later to go to Red Hook Tavern for burgers.
I’m busier than ever. In a good way I think. Before (last few weeks) I felt overwhelmed and exhausted but now I’m making sure to carve out time for myself. I also think the exercise and better life routine (e.g. waking up / sleeping better) will give me more energy to sustain my pace.
I’m reminded of in Tony Hawk where you’re grinding on a rail and you have to keep adjusting to make sure you don’t topple over. Feels that way where I’m either too free (and bored) or too busy (and exhausted) and I have to keep making adjustments so I don’t fall one way or another.
