Hello Again
I haven’t written for a long time. I’ve missed it.
A quick recap of the last few months. In the wake of a breakup at the beginning of the year, I resolved to be SUPER busy.
I started playing volleyball again.
I did another musical improv class.
Volunteered at church
Volunteered at the library
I dedicated a couple hours every day to finishing and releasing the new EP
And then a couple months ago (March) I finished the EP and things have gotten less busy since then.
Some highlights in between January and now (late May):
Went to Sweden for work! Beautiful city. Nice people. Definitely want to go back (and see the northern lights). I also hear the viking ship museum is a must see
pizza burek—so good I ate it twice in during my week in Stockholm
On the way back I swung by London to hang out with Rupert and Sherry. Always a pleasure to see both of them
Multiple improv shows! The new musical improv class I did was great and all of us got along well. We’ve formed a team out of it and will perform in a comedy festival in August
Dad came to visit NYC! It had been a couple years since he last visited so it was cool to see him in my home city
Silly lil thing but I won a baking competition that Saad and Chaitya hosted at their apartment! Tbf I only went against two competitors in my division but a win is a win
Went back to LA for a bit. I remember wanting to be at home relaxing on a hammock doing nothing all week but Mom and Dad ended up selling the house the week I was back so it was a lot of errands.
Harry and I spent a couple days in Ktown exploring LA a bit more. That was fun
Also spent a day in Gardena with Tony and Annie. That was great too. Beach day and hit up some great restaurants (Waka Sakura for conveyer sushi and Holbox for delicious Mexican food)
Andrew came to visit right when I got back to NYC. Was super fatigued while he was here but I’m glad we got to catch up in person.
Rosie also visited NYC and we caught up for the first time in years. So cool seeing her in person after so long.
I’m skipping over so much but alas that’s the price of not writing for the past ~5 months. I think that may have been the longest I’ve gone without posting.
Current Day
At this point in my life, here’s what I’m focused on:
Dropped a new song (Waltzin by Lostinthewoodz) on Spotify!
One of the best and favorite songs I’ve made in my life. Granted, I spent YEARS figuring this out but I’m so so so happy that I finally finished it and released it.
Just did a launch party for having finished my EP. Was super cool having so many different groups mixing and mingling and listening to my music. I hosted it at my apartment and kept the group on the smaller side since I wasn’t sure how much space I’d have but I can definitely fit in more. I took some videos and hope to put together a blog at some point
I continue to focus on music and rolling out the EP over the few months
I’m living a much less busy life. I think I did what I had to do to a.) finish my EP and b.) not be too sad after breaking up but I definitely burned out a little towards the end.
Getting ready for an upcoming Asia trip.
Trying to stay active still with volleyball and I joined the softball team as well
Went to my first therapist appointment. After getting some advice / resources from Alyssa I decided to check it out to see how it would help me manage stress, loneliness, and improve my relationships. Excited to see where this goes!
As my lease is coming to an end (end of August) I contemplate leaving NYC and checking out LA for a bit. Just to test the waters. Be closer to family.
The thought of being close to family brings me joy. I also think if I’m going to move there in the long run I want to establish my social circle in LA before people start settling down and starting families and get too busy for friends
But the thought of leaving NYC behind for good scares and saddens me
I wonder if I can have the best of both worlds where I’m in LA during the Winter / Summer and in NYC during Spring and Summer. I know one thing for sure—I will NOT be alone in NYC next winter. What a brutal season and setting to be in NYC. Dark, cold and lonely…
I hope to keep updating the blog more regularly. I think writing and reflecting here has made my life feel richer and fuller. Reflecting more on what I’ve done / the life I’ve lived makes time seem to move slower
