Them Changes
A lot of changes recently. Quit the job I’d been at for almost five years. Started a new job. Huge layoff announcements in my second week at the company (I’m safe ((for now))). Things are going great with Karin but she’s moving back to Indonesia in the new year (I’m going to be pretty sad starting January). I’m trying to squeeze in as much time with her as possible before she goes.
We celebrated her birthday this past weekend (karaoke with her friends on Saturday and I took her out to omakase and Little Shop of Horrors on Sunday). Spent hours trying to plan the best day I could but I approached the whole thing with a little more anxiety than I’d want (e.g. worrying about getting to the venue on time, worrying about whether she’d like the decor at the restaurant, etc.). It was the first birthday event I’d planned for anyone (not to mention—someone I was dating) and I wanted it to go well.
I’m also planning my upcoming birthday and the different things I want to do. I lowkey hate party planning for myself but I’m forcing myself through knowing I’d regret if I didn’t do anything.
Anyways — with all the above happening at relatively the same time it feels like a lot of changes at once.
I don’t love the process but I want to be the kind of person who embraces change gracefully and diligently marches towards the future so I’ll try my best.
Up until recently I’ve kept my head in the sand regarding a lot of changes. I didn’t think too hard about Karin’s timeline regarding her move. I wanted her departure to hit me suddenly and peacefully like someone dying overnight in their sleep.
But that seems pretty impossible at this point and I’ve started to acknowledge the reality lately. Well—at least we still have time.

Made a big batch of jajangmyeon using this recipe. Pretty good overall but don’t love having that much ground beef to chew through. Maybe I’ll try impossible meat next time
