Birfday / Improv II
Hello.
It’s been an eventful week.
birfday
It was my birthday this past week. I am now 28. I may have feared 30 in the past but I do not care anymore. Perhaps I will care once 29 rears its head.
This was a good year.
Especially this past year I went from being unhappy to pretty satisfied. Some thoughts as to why
I started taking more risks in a good way. Earlier this year there were definitely things/people I wanted that I avoided because of fear. I’d make up some bullshit excuse or pretend I didn’t want it in the first place. My achilles heel is feigned apathy. But I worked through that this year and feel good.
Settled down. I remember contemplating being a nomad earlier this year. I bounced around from Airbnb to Airbnb and didn’t have a base until maybe mid year. How do you build a life if you’re jumping around all over the place?
Friends. At this point I feel like I have a solid group of friends in NY. People I trust a lot and enjoy hanging out with. Feels like a solid life line in this cold city
Family is a given
Now that I’m solidly in my late 20s I want to build more. College is where you expose yourself to the ideas of the world. Early/mid twenties are when you venture into the world and adjust to COLD HARD REALITY. Late twenties are when you solidify what you want out of life and start executing.
I will admit that I don’t have a very very very solid vision of what I want out of life but I know generally where I want to go/what I want to do so I’ll keep doing that with courage and gusto.
Some potential blind spots going forward
APATHY.
Bad habits. I want to
Cut down on drinking.
Live healthier.
Sleep consistently.
Avoid digital bingeing.
Anyways birthday night was fun. We got hotpot at 99 Favor Taste. This was the very first hotpot place I went to in NYC all the way back in 2019. I’m pretty sure I went with Kristy and Nora back then.
Decided to mix and mingle all the different pockets of friends. I’ve slowly but surely integrated different pockets of friends which each other but there were still a number of people who were strangers with each other.
If I’m perfectly honest dinner felt a little awkward. I think it’s because some friends were strangers to each other or perhaps because—as I feared—some friends simply don’t click. Oil and water…
But afterwards we went to Radio Star Karaoke—my favorite karaoke place in NY and perhaps the world?!?!?—got drunk and had a pretty fun time.
We ended the night by singing Fun’s We are Young and I think I still feel pretty young tbh. Feel good. Feel fresh. Feel energetic.
Improv II
Had my second improv show!
Went well overall. Doing musical improv next. Having a lot of fun but I’m not sure what the end goal is here. Is it to audition for a house team and do weekly shows? Is it to update my acting resume and start auditioning for roles? Is it to meet other actor/artists and make stuff with them? Not sure yet…
But I think it’s good for me. Helps me bias for action instead of thinking too much.
In Other News
had the office holiday party. ran out of food in the middle. I appreciate the effort but wow are budget cuts tight this year…
went to K Town Pocha with the team afterwards.
went to Gomo’s house. First time back to the house since last Thanksgiving! Crazy long. We had a delicious dinner of korean bbq pork, ganjang gaejang and lil korean pancakes. The following day I got JjamJja at Hong Banjang… best jajangmyun I’ve had in a while.
nothing else I can remember.
