Winter 2023 Schedule / Daily Rituals

Old post I had in my drafts that I’m just publishing now:

Winter 2023 Schedule

Here’s another schedule post because I love reading back to past entries detailing my schedule.

On an ideal day

  • 8:30am - out of bed and taking a twenty minute roundtrip walk where I clear my head and prep for a session of writing / producing music

  • 9-10:30am - back at the apartment either writing at my piano or producing at my desk

  • 10:30am - 6/7pm - work

  • 11pm - wind down and prep for sleep

Variances to that schedule

  • Monday - Boxing @ 7:15pm

    • One of the best decisions I made this month. With each punch I feel closer to my peak physical form

  • Tuesday - Work from the office and Musical Improv from 7pm - 10pm

    • Holy shit this schedule can be hard. Being in office the entire day and class afterwards can be a big drain on energy. Since starting boxing on Mondays I feel more energetic though

  • Saturday - Boxing @ 10:15am

Still rounding out my weekly schedule but I may start playing trivia with some friends on Wednesday if that becomes a regular thing.

Daily Rituals

I’ve been reading Daily Rituals by Mason Currey where the author profiles different historical figures and how they structured their schedules. An interesting read where some patterns arise

  • A lot of people had concentrated periods of focused work. Instead of working long hours they’d focus on getting their creative efforts out in 2-3 hours

  • A lot of writers would track their word count. Trying to hit n words per session.

    • I wonder how songwriters would track their productivity

  • A lot of angst/doubt. A surprising number of the greats working with insecurity and forcing their way through that.

  • Some weird successful people. So far in the book two different very successful writers could only write in a horizontal position.

Here are some random highlights so far:
