Vocals rant / Opentable reunion
Back at it from the intermission.
I buckled down and really try to finalize my vocals for an upcoming song. Man oh man are vocals a pain.
Not only do you have to sing it well and record it well (both of which are an entire field of study on their own) but you also have to comp the vocals and tune it and align it with doubles and harmonies. And it takes a lot of time.
No wonder I’m punting the rest of this song to a mixer…
Anyways I am really really really close. Just have to finish the vocals for the intro and flesh out the rest of the outro instrumental and we’re good to go. Decided to go back on Trello for the remainder of this project (shoutout to my boy Andrew for the suggestion) and it’s moving along pretty well.
In terms of other life stuff…
I did end up doing a video chat with some old friends I interned with years ago at Opentable. What a trip. I hadn’t talked to most of these people since 2016.
And it’s not like we planned for a reunion or anything. We only did the video chat because one guy randomly messaged the group chat asking if anyone bought GME (😂).
Anyways it was cool seeing everyone. Not sure how much we’ll still continue to keep in touch since everyone is kinda scattered across the country. It is a sad idea that once you leave a place (work, school, group, whatever) you will never really have an opportunity to be with that same group of people again. People will get busy and drift apart and roam etc.
I had trouble falling asleep a few nights ago because I kept thinking about my Berkeley days. I wondered how different it would feel being on campus without all the people and friends I met during my time there.
But then again I realized that’s a little melodramatic. You will hold onto the people you want to hold onto and if you don’t then that’s your fault dummy. And it’s not like we live in the olden days when a letter take months to travel the country.
Other news from this week:
Met up with Frank. He just started this new healthcare company. Apparently there are a bunch of doctors that are tired of being part of the system (due to overwork or misaligned incentives where they’re encouraged to treat patients to optimize for more money vs patient’s wellbeing) and work entirely outside of insurance system. His idea is to create a marketplace connecting these doctors with patients
Got BBQ from Hometown BBQ with Tony, Annie and Dan (ToDannie?). We got the brisket, ribs, mac n cheese, lamb banh mi, and cornbread. Great meal.
