Waiting Lyrics / Fire Chinese Food
Man oh man. Week three of writing lyrics… I am moving sloooooow.
Oh well—it is what it is. I could say that I’m running ragged from my day job which is kinda true but I also think I’ve gotten a tad bit lazy.
Getting right to it. Here’s the update for this week:
Changes for this week included rewriting some lyrics and getting the second verse in. I’m happy enough with the verses for now and am confident to move on to the instrumentation/arrangement. Here are the printed out lyrics in full as of today:
[Chorus]
Dog won’t shut up
Nothing in my cup
I done drunk it up
While I was waiting
Tick in my tock
There’s piss in my crocs
Oh shit I forgot
What I was waiting for
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait a minute wait
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait a minute wait
[Verse 1]
Gathering up all my feelings shout into the void
Neighbor’s yelling back at me it’s 2AM so please go on shut up the noise (shut the f*ck up)
At the end of it I find myself at it again
Waiting on a thousand things undone a thousand words I never said
Fly on the wall
Kills me to say
Right in the moment
I’m feeling so lonesome
So lend me your ears
And lend me your wings
Take me to flight
I could use a lil distance
Past the hazy nights like this one
Nothing ever happens here
Waiting yet again for something
Wonder what it’s like on the other side
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
Oh clock would you stop
Just for a moment
I’ll figure it out
Where this is going
I think that I got it this time
Oh wait now I’ve gone and forgot (whaaaat?)
Slipping my fingers
Right through the cracks
All of the moments
I’ll never get back
What was I doing
When I had the chances
The music was playing
But I never danced
Been playing fool
Been playing a loner
Drunk on regret
I wanna get sober
Wake me up when
All this is over
Don’t know where I’m going but the
[Chorus]
That’s that for now. Excited to get into the instrumental part.
In terms of my personal life, what happened there? Always kinda hard to remember sometimes… My memory must be shot from all those late nights of bingeing random ass tv way past a sane bedtime. Woody don’t do that no more (in general) BUT I have started watching a new K Drama called Misaeng.
I’m only on episode 4 but it follows a guy working in a high powered office job for the first time in his life and navigating the pitfalls of modern work life in Korea. Like a low stakes Game of Thrones set in Korea without any magic (unless you think work friendships/relationships are their own form of magic <3).
Do I feel kinda bad getting into a K Drama when I’d ideally be working on music? Absolutely.
Besides starting the new show I ended up biking with Papa from Ventura to Ojai (the same ride I’ve been doing since I got to California). On the way we stopped by at AJ Chinese Express for some FIRE Orange Chicken. I don’t know if it’s because we were starving (hunger is the best sauce they say) but it was top 3 Chinese food I’ve had all year. On par with my local Chinese spot back in Brooklyn (shoutout to Autumn Asian restaurant).
The ride back was beautiful. The rolling hills in the cool gentle breeze of a California winter.
Beyond the biking I also finished reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. For the unfamiliar: it follows a young girl growing up in Williamsburg during the early 20th century. Poor family. Beautiful mother that works her ass off providing for her two children. Handsome father who’s overall likeable but too much of a drunkard to take care of his family. The story takes place over several years as the girl grows up into a young woman.
Pretty good overall. Kinda long. It sounds insanely privileged to say this but I’d never realized how much desperation there is in growing up poor. Throughout the book the characters inevitably circle back to the belief that education will raise them beyond their means/capabilities.
Yeah good book.
