Late Night Thots / Solo Trip?
It’s uncharacteristic of me but I’m night writing!
Spent the last hour on this random walk:
talking to Kelvin (he’s doing a solo trip out in Rhode Island)
remembering in the middle of our conversation that I had bought cheap tickets to Japan half a year earlier and the departing flight was coming up
Luckily my old boss approved almost 2 weeks of PTO during this time before she left
doing light research on Tiktok/Google to figure out how feasible/enjoyable a solo trip to Japan would be in a few weeks
reading through some old blog posts to remember how I felt about my last solo trip
reading through some other old posts to reminisce about life
Some thoughts
I wrote some fun posts. Assuming I keep this up, it’ll be super interesting to read back in a few decades to reminisce about who I used to be during these years
time slips away so quickly. Some times that seemed so trivial back then ended up being the fonder memories than I expected
i lived a very lonely life in NY. Especially during the pandemic. I can’t believe I spent so much time alone in my Prospect Heights apartment. Tbf a LOT of people were lonely and alone during this time but still…
I distinctly remember that it wasn’t so bad during that time. I binged a lot on food, tv and edibles. Visiting Harry every now and then got me through a lot of it (as well as seeing friends every now and then) but I wouldn’t want to go through it again
On the note of travel—I’m sure I’m taking so much for granted here. Not only the opportunity to travel to Japan again but also the fact that I have the time and freedom to do so. There may be a future me—50 years old with a wife, kids, a mortgage, and a dozen other responsibilities—reading this post exasperated at how much I took for granted.
I’m all over the place in this post but
I want to avoid taking too much for granted. Seize the opportunity of youth and freedom and GLORY
Don’t be too lonely if I can help it. Right now with my wfh schedule I spend way too much time at home alone.
Loneliness is a logistical problem as much as a emotional one.
Lastly, try to be more present. I know I inundate myself with way too much tiktok and tv and so much time slips through my fingers. And maybe it’s all a futile hope to want otherwise BUT I will try to be a responsible steward of my time and attention.
GOODNIGHT!
