To Do or Not To Do
This one will be a quickie. Got back to NY last Wednesday and spent the next few days in a sleepy, lonely state. Did nothing but watch TV, play Nintendo, and lament at being back in this lonely, cold city.
But I have emerged from that sad sack cocoon and feel back to normal. Back on the sleep schedule, back to the office, back to the regular routine.
To Do or Not To Do
Side note—how do you get better at making life decisions? It’s been a while since I had to make a large life decision but I very recently today had to pull the trigger on something (whether or not I want to switch teams at work).
After several back and forths I landed on yes.
I think the key for me is:
Do the proper due diligence
Don’t let fear of change keep me in place
That’s about it. When in doubt, just do the due diligence and pull the trigger if things feel right. I want to be the kind of person that can place bets on my future and deal with the consequences instead of waiting until it’s too late.
Lately I’ve been someone who comes up with reasons not to do something. A somewhat recent example is being in Mexico City and debating whether to go on a date my last night there.
I demurred. It’s late. My flight’s early in the morning. It’s probably better to sleep earlier and wake up in time for the flight.
But a little later Justin texted and I asked him for advice and he convinced me to just go for it. I went and had a great time.
None of my potential worries ended up being real issues.
I do this way too often and I want to change it. I wonder if the whole yes and philosophy of improv is rubbing off on me.
TLDR: I am risk averse and probably shouldn’t worry as much.
In the not too long time span since I’ve been back I did the following
Proud of myself for making it out to improv my first day back. Debated whether to go but finally landed on yes. Was sleepy af but I held it together and did a decent scene after all
Went to an open mic with Raj and Navdeep. With this too(!) I debated a bit whether to go or not. Would I be ready in time? Would my lyrics hit? But I pulled the trigger anyways. I somewhat bombed (forgot the lyrics midway and tried to freestyle my way out of it) BUT I am so glad I went.
Will try to go to one open mic per night
I want to be a TRY HARD. No waiting. No debating. Just declaring I want something and going for it.
Though I doubt many of my moves, one day I will live life like a fish swims through water. No resistance. No second guessing. Just free ~~~~ f l o w ~~~~.

Got Ethiopian with Will and Kelvin (aka Wellvin) at Haile. Delicious food—the Doro Wot and the Lamb (I think that’s what it was) were stand outs. We got the tartare but I’d skip that next time. The spices got to me and I ended up on the toilet afterwards BUT I’m glad I went
Played around with open gpt and it’s really cool. I’ve had writers block with some songs so it’d be cool to fill in the gaps with this.
Coworked with Aastha at Elevenses. We didn’t work much but it was fun catching up.
Checked out a new cafe in LIC called Knock Knock. Good coffee, great aesthetics, a bathroom, wifi AND outlets!
