Intermission (London edition)
Taking another intermission because I’m busy af this week.
working out of London so it’s a juggling act of frantically going on tours before work starts and working late into the night.
the London I’ve seen so far is pretty cool. I’m staying in Brick Lane which is an artsy neighborhood known for street art, thrift shops, etc.
feels like a grungier/more artistic version of Berkeley or east village.
still settling into the British way of life. So far I’ve eaten a ton of fish n chips, Indian food, sausage rolls (puff pastry filled with sausage), meat pies, etc.
im kind of at the point where I’d rather eat sweetgreen or something light…
besides that the people are diverse and relatively nice. They treat me as a novelty when they hear my American accent. I tried out my British accent for a British friend I made in Portugal and he said it was pretty good. Maybe I’ll try to fake an accent for some conversations here 😅
Most people also get very impressed when I tell them I’m from nyc. What a weird concept where the place you live gives you social capital. Back in Portugal I met a Romanian dude and mentioned I was from NY and he literally started jumping up and down. Imagine a huge Romanian dude jumping up with delight with a look of disbelief simply because you came from NYC.
later that night we had a longer conversation where he taught me a number of things I didn’t know about ny…
anyways intermission for tonight. Cya in a bit
